Registration officially opened on September 10, 2018.
Registration is open until 18:59:59 UTC on September 30, 2019. There are two phases of this registration period. Teams that register on or before 18:59:59 UTC on January 31, 2019 (Early Registration) will be required to pay a registration fee of $1,000 USD. Teams that register after that date and time and up until 18:59:59 UTC on Sept 30, 2019 (Final Registration) will be required to pay a late registration fee of $1,500 USD.
XPRIZE has sole discretion to register and qualify additional teams from the close of registration on September 30, 2019 to the end of the Semifinalist Verification currently scheduled for March 2021. Teams that register during this period must meet all the initial qualification requirements, be approved by the Judges, and pay a late registration fee of $3,000 USD. This is a limited opportunity and potential teams should contact XPRIZE directly for more details.
Competing in an XPRIZE is an exciting journey that often requires a commitment of time, expertise, and resources. Registration fees are required as a simple qualifier to ensure competitors will be able to obtain the appropriate resources to fully compete. All fees collected are used to support teams and competition operational costs such as testing, team-focused events, media and prize impact development.
We encourage you to update your team and user profiles on the Prize Operations Platform (POP) to share more information about yourself with other teams. Your team should now begin the Qualifying Submission, which is the first judged portion of the competition and is due on October 31, 2019. Complete all other open registration activities listed on your team page on POP to be sure your team is on track with all required submissions.
The $10M ANA Avatar XPRIZE is a four-year global competition focused on the development of an Avatar System that will transport a human’s sense, actions, and presence to a remote location in real time, leading to a more connected world.
ANA wants to bring the ability to connect more people and help further bridge the gaps between us, and wants the ANA Avatar XPRIZE to be a force for good in the world, allowing a person in one part of the world to be transported via an Avatar to another part of the world where they can share their skills and knowledge.
For the purposes of this competition, an Avatar System is defined as a physical Robotic Avatar operated by a person which enables the operator to interact within a remote environment in a manner that feels as if they are truly there.
The ANA Avatar XPRIZE is a four-year competition. The Semifinals are tentatively scheduled for Q2 of 2021, and the Finals are tentatively scheduled for Q1 of 2022. For more details, please consult the Guidelines in the resource section, or the competition timeline on the main prize page.
Teams can come from anywhere. They are often startups, university groups, or small to mid-size companies working across technical disciplines including but not limited to robotics, perceptual systems, VR, brain-machine interfaces, and AI.

There will be $10 million (USD) in total prize purses available.
There will be a Finals Prize Purse in the amount of $8,000,000 (Eight Million USD). The Finals Prize Purse will be divided among the top ranking Teams as First, Second, and Third Place Awards.• First Place: $5,000,000 (Five Million USD)
There will be $2,000,000 (Two Million USD) to be shared equally among all Teams (up to 20) selected as Finalists.
